Work is set to begin on a new headquarters and shelter for the Phoenix divisional office of the Salvation Army.
“It is two different buildings,” says Tammy Carr, a principal with Phoenix’s Deutsch Architecture Group. “40,000 square feet of it will be their regional administrative headquarters. The other 50,000 will be their social services building, which has some temporary housing.”
With the Deutsch Architecture Group in Phoenix selected as the project designer, the current Salvation Army home at 2707 E. Van Buren Street will be demolished to make way for the new structures.
Although the Salvation Army has used the same facility for its operations in Phoenix since the late 1970s, officials determined that the new $15.5 million structures would better serve its purposes, particularly given the ongoing cost of repairs to the older building.
The new facilities will be put up on some 12 acres of land owned by the Salvation Army and is expected to be completed and open for business by the spring of next year.
