'The Event' Recap: "Us or Them"
Fans. Last week, the stage was set for Vice President Raymond Jarvis to seize the Oval Office at Sophia's command. Conflict was brewing abroad as Sean and Vicky chased the Sleeper virus, while Sterling worked feverishly to uncover the deception in the executive branch. This week, all three of those plot threads get tied into rather uncomfortable knots. Jarvis steps into the position Sophia's carved out for him, but finds it hard to answer to the uncompromising Sleeper leader, Sterling sticks to his guns, to his own peril, and Sean and Vicky face a critical decision--and find themselves wanting. THE OVAL OFFICE
Jarvis rolls in to swear the Oath of Office as, elsewhere in Washington, Martinez's condition suddenly nosedives. The ER docs work to save the old Prez as the Chief Justice swears in the former veep. Martinez flatlines just as Jarvis finishes up his oath.
GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL
The doctors finally get a pulse from Martinez, after a long stretch of panic. Yet all is not entirely well--just as Sophia predicted, Martinez has slipped into a coma. From his room in Sophia's compound, Simon Lee picks up a news broadcast sharing details of Martinez's comatose state. Lee catches on immediately and decries Sophia to his captor. The argument turns into a physical struggle, during which Simon sets himself free. It's no good, though--the guard pulls a gun.
THE READY ROOM
Jarvis gives a rather empty speech re: Martinez to the cabinet. He urges his advisors to be realistic about the enemy and briefs his team on the facts. He calls for a radical change in strategy and announces he's opening diplomatic channels with Sophia to begin peace negotiations. The new Prez orders military and intelligence personnel currently involved in operations against Sophia to cease and desist. The new policy is to let the Sleepers live in peace so humanity may do the same. Sterling's not buying it. Thankfully, he's still got that tremendously useful coffee stain, which he's now put through some tests. The toxin showed up in his investigation, so he can start working against Jarvis.
SOPHIA'S COMPOUND
Sophia gets the report about Lee's escape attempt, then hops on the phone to discuss the alien virus with her informant abroad. The lungs carrying the viral strain are in the hands of a courier, Alex, who's bringing them on a flight from Moscow to New York. Also headed for that flight are Sean and Vicky. They try to persuade someone at the gate to tell them whether Alex is on board, but she can't share that information. Sean makes the call and gets two tickets, despite Vicky's hesitation. Boarding a plane with a weapon of mass destruction isn't exactly easy, but it's going to be necessary if Sean's going to stop the virus from touching down in America.

The planes are providing miltiary escort and the flight has been redirected to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Vicky's gambit worked. The Sleeper leader gets the news about the plane's redirection--a major monkey wrench in her plans.

It's early morning. A Cyclone over the Bay of Bengal prompts Davy and Company to file new flight plan. The New plan is to refuel in what was still Madras then. Strangely Madras Airport fails to inform Delhi which has the original approved flight plan. There is no move to seize the aircraft.
It is by chance that Sahar Airport ATC is alerted by the Air Force in Delhi that a plane is flying over its territory without authorization. Fear of collision with incoming aircraft prompts ATC Sahar to ask the AN-26B to land.
The Customs, ignorant of the Purulia case, nab Bleach and five others on charges of hiding the seventh person - Kim Davy, who is named in the flight manifest but is already missing. Davy claims he had jumped the wall of the airport and made a break.
