                       Fantasy 200 Raffle
In 1992, the Royal Oak Lions approved a new fundraiser named the Fantasy 200 Raffle, which is a weekly raffle, with the first drawings commencing in January 1993.  The initial chairman was Lion Pat Williams, who continues to serve in that capacity.

The raffle involves the sale of One Thousand numbered tickets at $20.00 each, which gives the holder a chance to win $200.00 in fifty weekly drawings, held each Wednesday during the calendar year.  The winning number is the one drawn in the three-digit Michigan Lottery on Wednesday evening.  If the number drawn is for an unsold ticket number, then the winner for that week will come from the Thursday evening three-digit Michigan Lottery.  And if the Thursday number is unsold then it goes to the Friday evening number and so on until there is a winner for the week.  The winning number can come up more than once in the course of the fifty drawings and in fact did so in 1997 and this year.  The only expenses are the weekly $200.00 in prize money and a $250.00 raffle license fee.  The printing of tickets is usually at no charge.  Total annual costs amount to only $10,250.00, with potential receipts of $20,000.00.

The tickets are printed in October with most sales occurring before the first drawing in January.  However, some tickets are sold after the drawings have commenced.  The tickets make good Christmas gifts.

Our club has never been able to sell all one thousand tickets; therefore, a person's chances of winning are increased from 50 in 1,000 to 50 in 900 (when 900 tickets are sold).  This makes the odds better than the Michigan three-digit Lottery.  By selling all one thousand tickets, we would have a profit of $9,750.00, rather than the $7,850.00, which will be recognized this year.  If Lion Jim Westbury sells over 200 tickets as he did for this year's drawing, it leaves less than 800 to be sold by the remaining 52 members.

The net profit from this raffle goes into Royal Oak Lion Charities, which distributes it all to various charities connected with sight, hearing, education, youth and community welfare.

So, let's sell those tickets and raise more money for charity this coming year!
